Movies that Move You: Like Crazy

For anyone who is in love or who has been in love or who wants to be in love, I recommend that you see Like Crazy. It's a truly intimate portrayal of young love and all its ups and downs. The film is beautifully shot and perfectly acted (all the dialogue is improvised, so amazing!). Like Crazy gives you a charming yet bittersweet view on love. And all its "gory bits".

Lyrics I Love: To Build A Home

I have loved this song for what feels like forever. It's over six minutes of glorious piano and heart-wrenching lyrics. I believe my heart first fell in love with this song when it was used in the Another Earth trailer (you can learn more about this movie here). This song just gives me so many feels I can't even explain them. When you listen to it, you will know what I'm talking about!

July Playlist

I am aware this playlist makes me look like a complete lunatic. The songs are all over the map; there is no cohesion. But to be honest, that's me! I like all kinds of music and these playlists I put together are mostly the songs I get obsessed over. They relate to the people, places and things of my life. Sometimes it's a song I heard on the radio once and fell in love with. Other times it's a song from a movie (see This is the End!). And I can't forget about the songs that remind me of the people in my life and that one person I can't stop thinking about.

What songs are making your July awesome?

Movies that Move You: Another Earth

When another earth is discovered, Rhoda Williams, a lover of stars and space, dreams of visiting this new planet. But her world crashes down around her when she is involved in a terrible accident. Her future at MIT now ruined, Rhoda takes a job as a cleaner and through a series of events meets John Burroughs, a man inextricably linked to her past. As her relationship with John develops, Rhoda receives a chance to visit the other earth. Will her duplicate be just like her? Did she make the same mistakes? Is John's broken life on this earth whole on the other? Will Rhoda make the trip to the other earth?

Another Earth is a beautifully written and heartbreaking story. The cinematography is on point; the acting of both Brit Marling and William Mapother is something to behold. Weaving together what is essentially a sci fi narrative with a love story between two broken people, Another Earth packs an emotional punch. It asks this question: how far would you go to fix your mistakes? For Rhoda, it might be to another planet. For us, it could be much smaller. What would you do?

Lyrics I Love: Down By the Water by The Drums

This edition of Lyrics I Love features a song I just recently fell in love with. Its beautiful lyrics about standing by the side of someone you love tug on my heartstrings. It gives me feelings of loving someone no matter what circumstance they may find themselves in. That you'll be there to carry them back from whatever is bringing them down. That you are there for them forever.

I dedicate this song to J, someone who needs a lot of support right now. Love ya <3

Hollywood Beauty: Women in Film

I love black and white photography. I love Hollywood. And I admire strong, beautiful and intelligent women. So it makes perfect sense to feature the women of Hollywood that entertain and inspire me. Hopefully they inspire you, too!

Which Hollywood beauty is your fave?

Movies that Move You: Upstream Color

Upstream Color // A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.

As a fan of Shane Carruth's Primer, I desperately wanted to see his newest film Upstream Color. As with Primer, this film stunned me with its disjointed narrative and hypnotic cinematography. It weaves together images of life, love, nature and the question of whether one can truly overcome an emotional loss.

What films move you? Tell me in the comments!
